Saturday, 20 Feb 2010 daily speedpainting - War Machine from the upcoming film Iron Man 2, showing May 2010.

Sorry if the design's not accurate, I'm basing it off of memory from watching the trailer.

There was a video recording I'd done for this, but right now it's 17 GB huge, so I can't upload it yet. :c

Anyways, here's the time breakdown:
8:47 pm - 10:36 pm - initial painting, considered uploading but I thought it looked incomplete.
11:54 pm - 12:21 am (sunday) - touchup, background work, highlights
Monday 7:17 pm - 7:26 pm - touchup 2, added debris, rim lighting

Total time: 2h25min

Layer breakdown:
background - obviously, the background layer.
Layer 1 - War Machine figure
Layer 2 - background highlights
Layer 3 - War Machine eyes + chest lights
Layer 4 - muzzle flash + explosion lights

Total layer count: 4 layers

Iron Man and War Machine (c) Marvel.

Critiques and comments appreciated.

He was the Man,
he had the Vote.

I love this image with all the action going on in it. I do think it could use a lil more rim lighting but you've already heard that... I wish I had more critique for it, but, I just have to admire all the small details. The motion blur effects on the bullet cases and the particle explosions, the brushed metal shine on all the parts of his body... I guess my only crit is that it could be sharper but it was a speed painting. Mainly his arms look too blurry.

Badass. I especially love the lighting on the face plate most.

This is fantastic! I can't ever wrap my mind around speedpainters that work like you do, it's very realistic and eye popping. Great job!
